Health Sciences Preparation Certificate (CAS.HEALSP)


Certificate in Applied Science

15-34 Credit Hours

This certificate helps students prepare for careers in Health Sciences professions and enhances the academic skills of students seeking admission to a Health Sciences degree program at the college. The certificate will provide students with structured guidance on the prerequisite and requisite courses for the Health Sciences programs. Students in any health science pathway can use ENG 101  and PSY 201  to complete their program requirements.

Health Science degree applicants complete one of the following pathways.

Pathway 1: Dental Hygiene (CAS.HEALSP.DHG)


For applicants in the Dental Hygiene, AAS (AAS.DENTH)  program.

Pathway 2: Dental Assisting (CAS.HEALSP.DAT)


For applicants in the General Technology - Expanded Duty Dental Assisting, AAS (AAS.GENET.EDDA)  program. Some students may choose to pursue the Expanded Duty Dental Assisting Diploma (DAS.EXPADDA)  which only requires three courses in this certificate.

Admission Requirements


Admission into this program requires proof of high school graduation or GED and qualifying placement levels. Students must meet with a Health Sciences academic advisor in their desired program of study to discuss their academic plan.

Note: Completion of the Health Science Preparation certificate does not automatically admit a student into their chosen career path. Students must complete all courses in their chosen career path with a grade of C or better and meet all other admission requirements according to their program of study.
