Associate in Applied Science in General Technology

Automotive Technology career path

66-71 Credit Hours

The General Technology degree allows students to become multi-skilled technicians by creating an individualized plan to meet their career goals. Students complete the general education curriculum and coursework in at least two technical areas. The primary technical specialty consists of at least 21 credits from an approved degree, diploma, or technical certificate currently offered by the college. Students also complete a minimum of 12 credits in a secondary path with guidance from their faculty advisor.

This career path prepares students to enter the automotive industry by developing strong mechanical, analytical, and reading comprehension skills. Students learn to diagnose, maintain, and repair passenger cars and light trucks through theory and shop instruction. In addition, they are introduced to essential management and customer service principles.

Students can earn only one General Technology degree in a single career path.

Secondary Technical Specialty Requirements


Students must complete at least 12 credit hours in a secondary specialty path. Your degree path may require more than 12 credit hours to complete the associate degree. Your academic advisor must approve all secondary studies. Common secondary paths include Air Conditioning and Refrigeration, Automotive Technology, Business Administration, Commercial Truck Driving, Electrical Line Worker, Electrician: Automation, Construction and Industrial, Engineering Design Graphics, Industrial Maintenance, Machine Tool Technology, Mechatronics, and Welding Technology.

Admission Requirements


Admission into this program requires proof of high school graduation (or GED) and qualifying scores on SAT, ACT or the TTC placement test.
