Expanded Duty Dental Assisting Diploma (DAS.EXPADDA)


Diploma in Applied Science in Expanded Duty Dental Assisting

43 Credit Hours

This diploma prepares students for dental assisting procedures under the direct supervision of a licensed dentist. The program is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association. Graduates are eligible for certification in monitoring nitrous oxide sedation by the South Carolina State Board of Dentistry. Upon satisfactory completion of the Dental Assisting National Board examinations, graduates are designated certified dental assistants.

Admissions and Program Requirements


General admissions procedures are also required for the Expanded Duty Dental Assisting program.

  1. Students will be required to provide a completed, current Health Sciences - Student Health Record, including all immunizations and titers, TB or Quantiferon Gold (PPD) tests and current Healthcare Provider CPR certification, major medical insurance and medical professional liability coverage.
  2. Students will be notified by my.tridenttech.edu email the date and time of the mandatory program orientation. Failure to attend will result in forfeiture of one’s seat in the program.

In addition to meeting the college’s general admission requirements, including the submission of high school and college transcripts, applicants to the Expanded Duty Dental Assisting program must complete the requirements listed within the Program Information and Course Sequence-Diploma link on the program web page.

Note: Falsification of any information submitted will make a student ineligible for admission to or continuation in the Expanded Duty Dental Assisting program.

Course Progression


Before progressing to the next semester, students must attain a minimum grade of C in each lecture, laboratory, and clinical component of the program and achieve a minimum grade of C in all prerequisite and corequisite courses. Applicants will be admitted to this program on a first-qualified, first-admitted basis. Applicants are considered to be qualified for admission to the next available class when they meet all college and program requirements.
