Fees and Financial Aid

Financial Aid, Tuition and Fees

Trident Tech focuses on providing high-quality education with affordable tuition and fees, financial assistance, and payment plans. Find the best way to pay for your college education with the information below.

Students can apply for financial aid by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and submitting it to TTC’s school code (004920). This will help calculate the amount of financial support you might need. See how you can apply for financial aid.

Different types of financial aid are available, including federal and state financial assistance. Trident Tech also offers scholarships and Federal Work-Study opportunities. Explore cost and aid options.

To be eligible for financial aid, students must make satisfactory academic progress toward their academic program. This is measured at the end of each semester. Review how to maintain satisfactory academic progress.

If you still have questions about financial aid, review the frequently asked questions about financial aid.

Tuition and fee rates are set per semester. Find the tuition and fees for the current academic year. Semester balances are due by the posted due dates listed in the TTC Calendar. Tuition is affected by residency. Review the residency requirements at TTC.

FAFSA

To apply for financial aid, fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is available online. A student’s FAFSA results need to be submitted directly to TTC by placing TTC’s school code (004920) on the FAFSA.

To ensure your financial aid award is posted to your account in time, please follow the important steps to receive your financial aid.

Meeting deadlines and submitting information on time will ensure your financial aid is in place when it is time to pay tuition and fees and purchase books. Visit the TTC Calendar for semester dates.

Additional Fees

The fees listed are not necessarily all-encompassing and are subject to change without notice.

Credit by Exam Fee: $45

Student Official Transcript Fee: $10 per transcript

Returned Checks and Credit Card Payments: A service fee is assessed in accordance with current law on all chargebacks for checks received as payment of books, fees, etc., that are returned by the bank for insufficient funds or closed accounts.

Student Status for Financial Aid

Students are classified by the number of credit hours taken per semester. It is important to understand how your student status affects your financial aid. If you are eligible for financial aid, the number of credit hours taken in each term will affect when your financial aid is issued and how much can be applied to your student account each term. There are set enrollment requirements for different types of financial aid. Visit the Financial Aid Resources webpage to view the enrollment requirements.

Full Time: A student enrolled for a minimum of 12 semester credit hours.

Part Time: A student enrolled for 11.5 or fewer credit hours.

Award Information: Financial Aid is processed for one academic year (Fall, Spring and Summer) per application. All Financial Aid programs are subject to change. Visit Cost and Aid for details on available financial aid.

Enrollment for Financial Aid: TTC awards financial aid based on credit hours per term of enrollment at the end of the drop period of the term. No adjustments to the student’s awards will be made based on changes after the drop period unless a class is canceled by the college or the student withdraws.

Payments and Repayments

Reviewing Balances: TTC does not mail bills to students. Students should review outstanding balances in Self-Service (under Student Finance) in the TTC Portal and pay any balance due. TTC semester balances are due by the posted due dates.

Tuition Refund: Students must officially drop courses by the published deadline for a 100 percent tuition refund. If a course is canceled and a student cannot find a replacement course, TTC will refund the tuition paid.

Repayment of Federal Financial Aid: Financial aid funds are transferred to student accounts after the Drop/Add dates. Visit Refunds and Withdraw Policies to view any restrictions and refund distribution options.

If you withdraw completely or stop attending without officially withdrawing before attending 60 percent of the term or semester, TTC will determine whether you must repay Title IV funds under the Title IV regulations, which may result in a balance owed. To learn more, visit Return of Title IV Funds Policy.

The U.S. Department of Education instituted this repayment policy in the 2000-01 academic year for students receiving Title IV assistance (financial aid).

Veterans Tuition Payments and Overpayments: For tuition information, contact the Financial Aid/Veterans Assistance Office located on Thornley Campus, Bldg. 410/Rm. 102, or call 843-574-6105.

Students receiving VA benefits processed through TTC’s Veterans Assistance office must keep the TTC VA office informed about initial registration in classes each semester and immediately report any changes in enrollment status during the semester to avoid underpayment or overpayment situations. It is the student’s responsibility to contact TTC’s VA office about any registration changes.

For additional information on the Military programs, services and resources, visit the Veterans, Veteran Dependents and Service Personnel catalog page  and the Military Programs and Services webpage.

Student Debts and Failed Payments

Debts Owed to the College: You will not be permitted to receive your graduation diploma, transcripts, or current semester grades or to register for the upcoming semester until all debts incurred at the college have been paid in full.

TTC will begin immediate collection efforts at the end of the semester, which may include placing your account with the South Carolina Department of Revenue Debt Set-Off program and/or an outside collection agency.

Returned Checks: If your check is returned, you have 10 days to make full restitution, including a service charge or non-sufficient fee, in accordance with current law. You must pay certified funds in the Business office. You may be liable for court costs and fees, as well as the amount of the original check. Your classes may be canceled for nonpayment.

NOTICE:

Tuition and Fees: As a state-supported institution, TTC sets its tuition and fees based on appropriations granted by the South Carolina General Assembly. The college’s tuition and fees are directly affected by the action of the legislature. They are therefore subject to change without notice. Fees are subject to change without notice by the TTC Area Commission.

South Carolina Tuition Tax Credit: South Carolina Code Section 12-6-3385 provides a refundable individual income tax credit for tuition paid to an institution of higher learning. Refer to form I-319 under forms and instructions on the South Carolina Department of Revenue website.

Cost of Attendance: The cost of attendance (COA) is constructed following federal student aid regulations and helps determine the student’s financial need. The COA sets a limit on the amount of aid students may receive and is an estimate of a student’s total educational expenses. The COA is updated each academic year.
