BIO 225 - Microbiology

This is a detailed study of microbiology as it relates to infection and the disease processes of the body. Topics include immunity, epidemiology, medically important microorganisms, and diagnostic procedures for identification. This lecture and laboratory course introduces bacteria, protozoa, rickettsia, viruses, fungi, and algae while emphasizing the morphology, physiology, genetics, identification, cultivation, and control of microbes. A survey is made of pathogenic microorganisms, their effects on the human body, and the immunology of the human body.

Prerequisite: BIO 101  or BIO 210  with a grade of C or higher should have been completed within the last five years.
